Module One – Introduction to Homelessness in Richmond

This course will provide you with an introduction to homelessness in Richmond, some ways you can keep spaces welcoming to all Richmond residents, and how you can help individuals experiencing homelessness access the right resources to help. This course is not meant to teach you to be an outreach worker, and it certainly does not include everything about homelessness and supports, but it should leave you with an understanding of how to help within your role in the City. This course also does not replace specific direction from your direct supervisor. 

Before you get started, here’s a few tips on how to navigate this course:

• The Sidebar on the left of your screen is where to click to progress through the course. Modules will be checked off with a blue icon when complete. 
•  You must progress through this course in order. If you skip ahead, a button directing you back to your last incomplete step will appear.  At the bottom of each page, click Mark Completed to move on to the next step. 
• End-of-Module Quizzes are in five of the modules. These do not need to be passed to complete the course. 
• The End-of-Course Quiz must be passed with a score of 70% or greater to be considered complete and generate a certificate. This quiz can be taken as many times as you want, and will only cover very high-level points presented in this course. 
• Log Out from the course by hovering over “Hello, your name” in the top right corner of the screen, and click “Log out”. 
• If you are reviewing content you previously reviewed in a completed module, the “Mark Completed” button won’t be there and you will need to click on “Back to Module” instead.

• Demonstration Videos are videos in which an actor or actors demonstrate a specific skill or concept. They are meant to portray interactions you may have as accurately as possible. One part of this is the actors will not always demonstrate exactly what should be done. As you watch the videos, reflect on what you have learned so far, and consider how each scenario might play out in your workplace. 
• Explanation Videos are videos in which a series of slides are presented by a narrator. These videos provide some tips and suggestions, along with some more detailed explanation of some course concepts. The slides can be text heavy for those who prefer to read along. Feel free to pause to read at any point, or just pay attention to the narration.
