James has been teaching providers and patients about mental health for over a decade. Having worked in Metro Vancouver in homelessness services, addiction treatment, community counselling, and youth programs, the idea for Mindskills.ca and the Mindskills Learning Hub was born out of a desire to make high-quality psychoeducation and therapy techniques available to those who may not have accessed them before, and also as a supplement to existing programs.
James is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors. In his therapeutic work, James is trained in and uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, as well as other techniques that have the overall goal of supporting a mindful approach to values and meaning in life.
James is also an employer, non-profit program director, and researcher, which also makes up parts of the Mindskills Learning Hub that make our content relatable. He leads the team of contract staff at Mindskills.ca that creates and maintains the Mindskills Learning Hub, and delivers most in-person and live virtual training.
